Onkyo TX-NR609:
The 609 has everything that made the 608 so popular last year, but also boasts two important new features, which will make it even more desirable. So you still get six HDMI inputs (all HDMI 1.4) plus 7 x 160 watts, plus True HD sound, plus 1080p upscaling, plus Bi-amp capability, plus computer VGA input, plus THX Select2+, plus Dolby Pro Logic 2z, plus standby HDMI pass-through, plus audio return, plus GUI menu and the ability to run an independent second zone. However, the two important additions that give the 609 even more of an edge are that it now sports front USB iPod connectivity and wired networking, including access to Spotify (premium account needed) - all highly desirable. The 609 sounds amazing too, so will undoubtedly follow in the footsteps of its predecessors and be a massive seller this year.
Q Acoustics 2000 cinema 5.1:
At a stroke, the boys at Q Acoustics have taken one of the world's most popular systems, the multi award-winning Q Acoustics 1010i 5.1 and improved it in several key areas, without increasing its price by one penny. The 2000 5.1 system looks better, has a lovely slim-line sub, has a neater (optional) wall bracket and sounds even more impressive than its illustrious predecessor.
Forget 'pretty pretty' metal sub / sat systems - the Q 2000s sound better and cost half the price.
